If the boot is torn and you hear clicking on turns, a boot kit won't save it. The joint is already contaminated. The reliable fix is a new axle. We recommend OE-quality or a premium reman—not the $65 axle that 'should fit' but sits loose in the snap ring groove. That groove is the difference between a quiet ride and a tow truck call.

I have a personal entry in the mistake log for this. In March 2022, I gave a Mazda 3 customer a quick ballpark of $200 for a front axle. I didn't check the parts catalog or the labor guide.
